As a child, John loved taking things apart and putting them back together. He was propelled by perpetual curiosity about how things work—fittingly, one of the first jobs John held was a bicycle mechanic. The confluence of attention to detail and functionality was ideal, but it paid poorly and he yearned to move out of his parents’ basement. So he decided to go to design school.
Fast forward a few decades, and John (while rarely approached to fix bicycles anymore) is adroit at usability. After a brief stint in Hollywood, he made his way to New York City, where he found a home helping agencies build, grow, and lead their digital teams. Along the way, he developed a particular expertise in designing for regulated environments—finding novel ways to simplify the complex and advocate for the user against all odds.
Equal parts strategist, leader, and craftsman, John’s work is informed and elevated by proficiency in technical systems and graphic design and a perpetual fascination with human psychology. He has received kind accolades for his efforts in design and UX, among them, a Bronze Lion at Cannes for
The Topographical Model of MS.
John earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is an active member of the Interaction Design Foundation and certified by Adobe.
